Spanish semen is the worst and most effective in Europe

For couples trying to get pregnant, the conclusion of a study on the quality and effectiveness of Spanish semen is good and bad news. He says its quality has dropped, but it is considered one of the best for achieving pregnancies through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

In terms of semen, in terms of volume, mobility and concentration of sperm per ejaculation, the Spanish are only ahead of the Belgians and the Turks, and behind 10 European countries, such as Sweden, Norway and Germany. The Spanish semen is considered the worst than that of 25 years ago. On the other hand, the study reveals that Spanish sperm is the second that works best to achieve a pregnancy, ranking only behind Portugal.

The study, carried out by the Valencian Infertility Institute (IVI), evaluated the sperm functioning of almost 12 thousand couples who underwent IVF treatment with egg donation. More than 40% of the Spanish couples who follow a treatment, achieved a pregnancy in the first attempt, while only 25% of the Swedish couples did, although they have a good seminal quality. The data reveal that not only is the count of sperm with good mobility and shape important, but also their physiological capacity to fertilize. Scientists consider that factors such as the environment, alcohol, tobacco or drugs, and especially stress, can influence the results obtained from sperm and consequently infertility. Vilma Medina.
